Current and future Lincolns
While the Navigator and the Lincoln Town Car
still hold their names, all Lincoln models since 2007 begin with "MK". The
2009 Lincoln MKS has taken over the flagship car role from the Town Car.
It is a full size luxury sedan and comes with front wheel drive with an
all-wheel drive option and can seat five people. The MKS is both sporty
and sophisticated and combines motion, power and speed. It also comes with
what is called a "Panoramic Vista Roof" which is a large moonroof and
sunroof medley. The 2009 MKS features a push button ignition system,
Bluetooth connectivity, a 500 watt 14 speaker audio system, and a DVD
based navigation system. Ford says that the MKS "has the largest selection
of technologies and comfort and convenience features in its class".
In 2007 Lincoln produced both the MKX and the MKZ. The MKX is a midsized
luxury SUV and is the successor to the Lincoln Aviator, although it does
not share many qualities with the Aviator. The MKX seats up to five people
and is a front wheel drive vehicle which can be ordered with all wheel
drive. It's debut in 2006 was as a luxury alternative for the Ford Edge.
The MKX also has the option of the Panoramic Vista Roof, and comes
standard with automatic headlights, auto-dimming rearview mirror, remote
keyless entry with keypad, and message center with compass as well as
other features. Previously optional features, such as Sirius satellite
radio, heated and cooled front seats, and reverse sensing system, now come
standard with the MKX and there were no changes made for the 2009 model.
The Lincoln MKZ was formerly known as the Lincoln Zephyr. It is an entry
level, mid-sized luxury car. The Zephyr was intended as a replacement for
the Lincoln LS. In 2007, however, the Zephyr name was no more and now the
newly named MKZ would be the replacement car for the Lincoln LS. This was
the first of the MK named models. The initials were adopted to keep up
with competitors such as Cadillac and Lexus who were naming their cars
with only letters. The MKZ has an all wheel drive system and THX II
certified audio system. New standard features for 2008 included Sirius
satellite radio, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Lincoln Sync among
others. Lincoln Sync enables mobile phones and digital media players to be
operated in the vehicle, mostly by hands free technology. For the 2009 MKZ
the AdvanceTrac stability control system also became standard.
The MKZ is again at the forefront of Lincoln's in 2010 along with the MKT.
The 2010 MKZ has been revised both internally and externally. The
headlights and grille have been updated on the front, while the rear
sports longer and thinner tail lights. New for 2010 is a reverse camera
system, rain sensing windshield wipers, Sirius Travel link, and DVD based
satellite navigation system. The MKT is new for 2010 and is a luxury
crossover utility vehicle. Features of the MKT include electric power
steering which also includes an "Active Park Assist" system that will
actually steer the car into a parallel parking space. The Lincoln MKT is
slotted above the MKX and is the second Lincoln crossover introduced to
their lineup.
