Historic Lincolns

The historic models of Lincoln's started with the Lincoln L series which were produced from 1920-1930.
Next was the Lincoln K series which lasted from 1931 to 1939. It was known as the Model K as it was a reflection of the older Ford Model K.

Lincoln-Zephyr existed from 1936 to 1942 and took on the role of being in the lower priced luxury car market. Lincoln Zephyr Continental was later just called Lincoln Continental and was in production from 1940-1942 and again from 1946 to 1948.
In 1941 and 1942 appeared the Lincoln Custom. This was a custom limousine which was only manufactured during these two years, except for another brief appearance in 1955.
After the war the cars became known only as Lincoln's, and this was the case from 1946 to 1951.
In 1949 however there was also the Lincoln Sport and the Lincoln Cosmopolitan. The Lincoln Sport was originally a two door roadster while the Lincoln Cosmopolitan had an aerodynamic hood ornament and was a full size sedan with "suicide doors". These both lasted until 1954.
In 1950 the Lincoln Lido was introduced as a lower priced entry level luxury car and was only made for one more year.

From 1952 to 1959 the Lincoln Capri came into the market as a full size luxury vehicle. It was named the safest car of the year in 1955. It could be ordered as a 4 door sedan, 2 door convertible, or 2 door hardtop coupe. The Capri was one of the hottest cars of it's time and accounted for about 87 percent of Lincoln's production in 1955. In 1956 Capri became an entry model car and sales went down drastically. Although it did rebound over the next three years, it was taken off the market in 1960.
From 1956-1960 the Lincoln Premiere was made as 2 and 4 door luxury cars that could seat six people. There was also a limousine version offered. The Premiere was below the Continental but above the Capri on the Lincoln car scale. The exterior was stylish and the interior considered high class. It also had some unique features such as air conditioning vents that were located above the head like you would see in an airplane.

The last of the historic Lincoln's was made from 1977-1980 and was called the Lincoln Versailles. It was the first mid-sized luxury vehicle made by Lincoln and was only made as a four door.
